After a four year gap, the third Belgrade T20 Tournament was successfully held at the Lisiciji Jarak cricket ground, in spite of occassional rain. Four teams participated – Hurricanes CC (composed of the players of Springfield CC and North Weald CC – Essex, UK), a Montenegro XI and two Belgrade-based clubs, Mirijevo and Stari Grad, respectively.
On Saturday, Mirijevo CC beat the guests from England by 6 wickets (Hurricanes 124-7, Mirijevo CC 125-4) with great performances from Bilal Ahmed (65*) and Djordje Tresač (32). The best players in the English side were Thrift (28), Westley (19), plus the captain Russell Jones, who took 3 wickets for 18 runs.
In the second match of the day, a Montenegro XI beat Hurricanes by 9 wickets, with their top batting order showing real prowess. Hurricanes 142-7 (Ginn 41, Thrist 22, Gibson 2-9) – Montenegro 144-1 (Gibson 39*, Giddins 29, Tucker 43*).
On Sunday morning Stari Grad surprised all the spectators by beating what had seemed to be the strongest side at the tournament – Montenegro. Montenegro 126 a.o. (Gibson 21*, Tucker 18, Dajč 3-16, Đurić 2-10) – Stari Grad 127-4 (Đurić 47*, Tošić 24*, Gibson 2-26).
In the last game of the weekend Hurricanes beat the combined team of Belgrade Cricket Association by 3 wickets in a very entertaining low-scoring match. BCA 91a.o.
